A month later, dealership couldnt replicate the problem, but replaced a tran sensor. Now, the dealership replaced the transmission with a remanufactured, without telling me first.
Still drives questionably, but it looks like Im stuck with it. The service dept, my salesman, and Fords Customer Relations act like I should be thrilled that I have a so-called new transmission.
Very solid quality, good size, huge trunk. Two-tone leather command seats are very comfortable, nice view in all directions, back-off sensors work well. Good sound system. For the size, fuel economy is not bad. Hope Ford can bring the GDI 4-cylinder engine soon.
My main concern when buying a car is safety and the Sable ranks as one of the safest on the highway. Safety aside it is roomy inside with a spacious trunk.
It has a good clean body style that is easy to wash and wax. The dashboard is laid out well and easy to see. And I cant imagine not having the mileage counter that tells you how many more miles you can go before needing to stop for gas.
The inside is comfortable and nicely done. For my money Ford offers the best paint job of any car maker and the paint and chrome make this Sable an eye catcher as you ride safely down the road. I have had it 3 months and have 6, miles on it driving from Pa to Canada to Florida and back to PA. No problems detected so far. I traded a Subaru Forester because it wasnt comfortable on long drives. Sync system took a while to master and performs reasonably well. Overall the Sable is a great value car.
I just had an extremely serious wreck at 65mph where I ended up on the opposite of the freeway upside down. My car did not pancake. The rear glass did not break, the doors did not cave in, I sustained no injury. I wish I could find another one just like it! A horrible aberration.
Previous Fords, even oldies have been rock solid. Was great for a year, then it started to mug me on a regular basis for repair money. Next time, Ill buy an old Jag. At least Ill go broke in style. I have owned this vehicle for thity days. There is something wrong when the car is cold. There is a hesitation in the accelleration at about 40 miles per hour. The dealer replaced a transmission line and a purge cannister gas was leaking.

The "Integrated Control Panel" ICP has been given a squared-off restyling, but still has the large, well-marked control buttons typical of Ford products. A six-passenger layout, with a split-bench front seat, is standard, but my test car had the optional five-passenger interior.
It features power- adjustable front bucket seats and a useful center console. The optional CD changer fits into the console box, and there's even room left over for small items. A perfect driving position may be obtained thanks not only to the power-adjustable seats, but to power- adjustable pedals. Shorter drivers can keep their distance from the airbags. The Sable in on the large end of midsized, and three people fit into the rear bench seat with relative comfort.
The trunk has been enlarged, with a lower liftover and an internal emergency release. SAFETY: The Mercury Sable features the "Personal Safety System," a computerized system that utilizes sensors that detect occupant position and seatbelt use to intelligently deploy the front and optional side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners.
All positions have 3-point belts, and the chassis has front and rear crumple zones. On the road, the car is quiet and surefooted. The lighter "Duratec" engine found in some Sables helps handling by decreasing weight and improving weight distribution. The base pushrod "Vulcan" engine gets 10 more horsepower - - and 12 more lb-ft of torque, now The dual overhead cam "Duratec" has the same horsepower and torque ratings - for each - but is 30 lbs lighter thanks to composite materials used for the cam covers and intake manifold.
